 Who is the Latin Man in the Line Dancing World ?Raymond Sarlemijn, born on 31 August 1971 in Amsterdam started line dancing at a local club in Amsterdam, and he soon join Roy Verdonk at his club. In his younger years Raymond was dancing hip hop, street dance, electric boogie in the street of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and moved on to Latin dance and ballroom dance.

Soon after joining Roy, Raymond grew to become an overall performer and joined Roy and Tom Mickers in theatre shows such as “The devil went to Georgia”. For a few years, he traveled around Europe for shows and workshops under the Country Dynamics group. 

Raymond did not stop from there and went on to create his own unique style of line dancing by mixing Latin and street dancing into line dance, probably one of the first who dances with both body and feet. Hence, the nickname: The Latin Man.

Raymond progressed to writing dance choreography for shows and workshops, and His innovations and efforts got him to the highest level in competition dancing: the Superstar/ Legend division at the UCWDC and also Megastar/ Jewel for the WCDF.. Together with best friends, Darren Bailey and Michel Platje, he won numerous World champions in choreography: European Champion, Benelux Champion, Norwegian Champion, Swiss Champion, Swedish Champion, Belgium Champion, German Champion, Dutch Champion, France Champion and many other countries in many different divisions. In total, he won 42 World Champioships, mostly in choreography.

Raymond has won 3 World titles at 1 World Championship in the choreography category, and amazingly, he did it twice. He’s probably also the only one who has won all the choreography categories at Worlds WCDF, Italy.

Raymond was the best Dutch choreographer in 2004 and 2006 at the bi-yearly Dutch Line Dance awards. In 2015, he was the People’ favourite choreographer at the World Championship in Sweden.

Raymond travels around the world to teach dancing and share his passion with many people. He is also a respectable judge for the UCWDC and WCDF, and he a member of the judge education board at the WCDF.

Raymond and his wife, Line are running their own dance/ training studio in Norway that's called 2B1. There, beside line dancing, he teaches many different kinds of dances - Baboom, Zumba, etc. He is also the head master trainer of Baboom at the Baboom academy.
